Tee Placements for Competitions
I'm often asked about how tee marker placements for competitions can affect the course rating. Golf Australia has a clear policy that all golf clubs follow regarding the positioning of tee markers in relation to the coloured course plates. For example, the men's blue markers can be placed forward or back of the blue plates, as long as the total change in distance across the 18 holes is no more than 100 metres.

This means players are not considered to be playing a different course, and competition conditions remain consistent for handicapping purposes. Golf Australia

Late Cancellation Policy
The Club is in the process of developing a Late Cancellation Policy to ensure fairness and maximize participation in competitions. The goal is to encourage Members who are unable to play to provide timely notice, giving those on the waitlist a fair chance to secure a spot. To support this, the Club is actively monitoring all competitions for cancellations made within 24 hours of the scheduled start time. Members who are found to be repeatedly cancelling within this 24-hour window will receive a formal warning, and disciplinary action may follow if the pattern continues.

Corella damage
Corellas are back around the course foraging for food which include: grass and bulbs, insects and grubs and seeds. This process is invasive and can leave areas of fairways looking unkempt.  Rule 16.1 Abnormal Course Conditions (Relief from animal tracks such as holes, depressions, or footprints made by animals) interfere with your ball, stance, or area of intended swing, they are treated as "abnormal course conditions" (ground under repair), and free relief is allowed in the general area only if you're not in a penalty area or a bunker.

Sue Kruse PSM | Women's Captain

As of the 30th of April, the Course has received 458mm rainfall so far this year compared 661mm same time last year. In the last fortnight 73.8mm of rain has fallen on the Course. With continued rainfall, the course has now reached saturation point.

As a result, we've had to restrict cart usage on several days over the past couple of weeks to help preserve the playing surfaces. I understand this may be an inconvenience, but these measures are essential to protect the course heading into what is expected to be a long wet winter.

To improve course accessibility during wet periods, my team recently completed additional drainage work around 1A green surround area known to be one of the wettest on the course in the past. While we've made solid progress, a few more isolated wet spots remain.

We'll continue to identify and drain these areas to ensure better playability especially when the spare hole is open.

 Course Vandalism Update

Leading up to the Easter long weekend, we experienced significant vandalism across the course. Several greens were dug up around the holes and turf thrown around the putting surfaces.

In addition, flags and markers were stolen or thrown in the ponds. We continue to have issues with E bikes skidding on the greens causing further damage, some strategies are being investigated to act as an deterrent but I ask all members to remain vigilant. If you witness any suspicious behaviour or see anyone on the course outside of regular playing hours, please report it.

Despite the recent rainfall and cooler temperatures, the course is still experiencing strong growth, typical of an extended summer season. My team is working hard to stay on top of growth despite wet periods. I appreciate your patience as we continue to manage these tricky conditions and keep the course in the best possible shape for play.

Question: Playing the 16th hole ,several balls from a group had gone out onto the mounds and on the 15th fairway. There seemed to be 6 or 7 players with balls in the area.

Tom had spent several minutes searching for his ball without success. In the end he found one ball without an owner. Tom assumed that it belonged to a player who had played his ball as a wrong ball and moved on. The nearest player to whom the ball belonged was more than 100 metres.

Which applies?

A) Tom must hastily get the owner of the ball back and get him to replace this ball on its original spot from where he played the wrong ball.

B) Tom himself must place a ball on an estimated spot if the original position was not known.

Our Annual Wine Dinner is Back! This time with Wicks Wines.

The original farm was purchased in the Adelaide Hills by LJ Wicks in 1918, where he planted the family fruit orchards and nursery.

In 1999 the Wicks Family purchased the property they now call home. It was Wicks Estate's unique aspects, premium vineyard sites and diversity of its terrain that encouraged the family to venture into the world of cool climate wine.

Fast forward 20+ years and the vineyards are pretty spectacular!

Wicks Estate has evolved into a true family affair and being an Estate means they can oversee and process all of the grapes that come off the vineyard on-site.

Where does the Archive material live?

On the 14th May the Golf Club will celebrate another birthday. In 2021 for the 100th birthday the Archive committee was able to mount a display of material to celebrate the club's history. It filled the Member's Bar and included three TV screens. Even then the club had over 300 items, others have been added since, all have been numbered and added to a catalogue.

Several members have asked since the display- "Just where are the archives kept?" The Archive Committee would love to play "Show and Tell" and explain what we own and where it is kept. Cupboards keys will be to the ready if you would like to see inside, touch, and  read on Monday 12th May between 10.00 am and 2pm - the week of the birthday. Equally a time could be arranged for any member interested in the club's history at another time.

The most obvious information is in the Trophy Cabinets and on the walls on the Honour boards. Many of the women's boards are in their locker room so can only be viewed by women. Others are in the Bar as before, some are outside the southern door or like the Services Cup Boards hard to find as they are positioned outside the men's locker room door. Both locker rooms have team photos on display. The women only display winning teams and Life Members but the heavy photo albums in the cupboard fill in the story since the 70s. The Men's old handicap indicator board hangs outside the men's locker room and here A4 photos are displayed and changed every two months or so. A birthday themed display can be seen for now.

The four cupboards at the back of the Member's Bar are full. In brief - one is full of publications, folders of A4 photos and black boxes of memorabilia. The second keeps the most precious of old journals and ledgers from 1921 onwards safe, including the first letter of application to the Council. There is also the complete collection of Annual Report from the 70s and the Programme books dating back to 1950s. Oversized folders fill the rest of the space holding charts, maps, plans and large photos and the more recently compiled folders of Pennant teams.

Cupboard number three is bursting with framed photos, most of them professionally done. They used to get an outing and hung in rotation when the archives had some wall space in the Pro-Shop. The last of the four cupboards holds the women's records from 1950 on the top shelf and separate subject folders below - including labels like, Course, Club House, Life Members, Newsletters old and current, Staff, Goulburn, Published articles, and so on. You open the door and a selection falls out! The small corner cabinet in the Member's Bar gives a chance to display a few items of memorabilia. The present display is of the old clubs.

The committee has the use of two lockers in the men's locker room. One is ideal to house the old hickory clubs made by our long time Professional Frank Eyre and the more recently added club made by the first course designer Peter Merrilees. This is also the small plaque collection cupboard. The second locker holds the collection of Men's and Women's team shirts and clothing as well as others garments that have been donated depicting special events.

Then there is the space under the Pro-shop. Here the old financial ledgers are kept and anything odd that won't fit anywhere else!

There is no answer for now to just how a permanent display space could be created in this Club House - perhaps in the next! We could challenge the displays at the New South Wales Golf Club or Concorde and have an Heritage Room which could become a tourist attraction draw card - tell us we are dreaming!

A little Club House trivia - There is a beautiful panelled wooden ceiling under the plaster board version in the kiosk part of the Bar. It is like a pyramid with the top squared off. It was designed for the 'new' 70s Club House to allow two-up games to use extra height when tossing.

Sandra Mellowes & Mick Snell | Archives Committee

Answer: B is correct

Rule 6.C (2) applies. What to do when a P[ayers Ball was played by another player as a wrong Ball?

The Player himself must replace the original ball or another ball on the original spot (which if not known must be estimated)

This applies whether or not the original ball has been found.

Clearly there is no need to get the player of the wrong ball to return except to play his own, not yet played, ball. Tom's ball must be placed not dropped.
