Dear IAN,

Please see the communication below, which was sent to all Members on 9th April 2026.

Clubhouse Development Application to be assessed 15 April

The Club’s Development Application for the Clubhouse Masterplan (DA2025/0764) has now progressed to the determination phase. Council has formally referred the application to the Northern Beaches Local Planning Panel, with the matter scheduled for assessment on Wednesday, 15 April. This is a standard step for developments of this scale and reflects the significance of the project, which was lodged with Council on 20 June 2025. The Panel will undertake its own independent review of the full assessment report and supporting documentation ahead of making a determination.

Importantly, the assessment report prepared by Council’s Manager of Development Assessment includes a recommendation for approval of the
application, subject to conditions. This is a positive outcome and reflects the extensive work undertaken to address planning, design, traffic and environmental considerations.

As is typical for a project of this scale, any approval is expected to include a number of deferred conditions to be resolved through detailed design and further technical input. These are a normal part of the process and are not considered to be insurmountable.

The meeting will be conducted online and recorded, with a decision typically confirmed within a few days following the Panel’s deliberations. Members should note that an approval, if granted, represents a key planning milestone only. There remains a significant body of work ahead, including detailed design development, staging, cost planning and funding strategy. This next phase will involve structured and meaningful engagement with Members, and ultimately any major project of this scale will be subject to Member consideration and approval before proceeding.

Hole in One

Congratulations Luke Cheng who achieved a hole in one on the 10th hole, indexed the hardest hole on the course, on Saturday 11th April. After searching unsuccessfully behind the green and in the greenside bunker, Luke decided to look in the cup before making the long walk back to the tee, only to find his ball resting perfectly at the bottom of the hole!

Bore Servicing

Our two bores on the right side of the first fairway will be serviced on Tuesday, 21 April. While the work is being carried out, the 1st hole will be played as a Par 4, with the tees moved forward to a position just past the bore on the right side of the fairway.

Orange Lines - Bunkers

All members are reminded to please enter and exit bunkers at the designated low point (marked in orange). This helps maintain the quality of the bunkers and prevents unnecessary damage to the faces.

After playing your shot, ensure you carefully rake the area you have played from, smoothing out footprints and divots. Once finished, please place the rake in the middle of the bunker.

Question:

George hits his approach into a sloped green. The ball lands, spins, and begins rolling back down the slope, looking like it might roll off the green entirely.

As it’s rolling, George instinctively steps forward and stops the ball with his foot to prevent it from running further away. He then places the ball back near where he stopped it and plays his next shot.

What is the correct ruling?

A. No penalty — ball replaced correctly.

B. One penalty stroke — ball must be replaced.

C. Two penalty strokes — must play from original estimated spot.

D. Disqualification.

Correct Answer: C

Explanation:
Under Rule 11.2 (Deliberately Deflecting or Stopping a Ball), George is not allowed to intentionally stop or influence the movement of his ball.
This results in a two-stroke penalty

The ball must be replaced on its estimated spot where it would have come to rest

By placing it where he stopped it, George has also effectively played from a wrong place, but this is generally treated within the same breach unless serious.
